Are Electric-type Pokémon really bad?

The Electric Type Across Generations
From Charjabug to Zekrom
Design of Electric Pokémon
The Electric Pokémon type is one of the least common, along with Ice, Fairy, Ghost, and Dragon. However, with electricity as their theme, they are particularly interesting from a design perspective, featuring bright yellow, lightning bolts, magnets, and elements from the power grid. Of course, it's worth mentioning that Pikachu, the quintessential Pokémon mascot, is a pure Electric Pokémon. Also worth a mention is Voltorb, the Pokémon that looks like a Poké Ball and is prone to blowing itself up. Or the Grubbin, Charjabug, and Vikavolt evolutionary line with its successful Bug/Electric design elements.

Electric Attacks
Electric Pokémon are not just beautiful to look at. The status condition Paralysis, often inflicted by Electric Pokémon attacks, is a harsh blow for opponents. On the one hand, it reduces the speed of the affected Pokémon, meaning it might lose initiative and attack second. Additionally, there's a high 25% chance that the Pokémon won't be able to attack at all. Paralysis is so powerful that many video game players dedicate one of their four valuable attack slots to Thunder Wave, an attack that paralyzes the target if successful but otherwise deals no damage.
Electric also has its own field, Electric Terrain. Pokémon touching the ground do not fall asleep, and Electric-type attacks are 30% stronger. Yawn fails, and already drowsy Pokémon do not fall asleep.
Superior Initiative
Electric Pokémon are among the fastest in the games. The faster of two opposing Pokémon can attack first, giving it a clear advantage. Regieleki takes the lead with a speed of 200. Other very fast and strong Pokémon include Zeraora (143), Miraidon (135), Manectric (135), and Tapu Koko (130).
With 130, Jolteon also has an impressive Initiative stat.
Strong Electric Pokémon in a Team
Many strong Electric Pokémon belong to groups like Regieleki with the legendary titans, and Tapu Koko with the guardian deities of Alola. Also, Zapdos, one of the three legendary birds of the first generation and a favorite of many. Thundurus, one of the Forces of Nature, and Xurkitree, one of the Ultra Beasts, as well as Zekrom of the Tao trio.
Current Status
With Pikachu, Zekrom, and Miraidon, Electric Pokémon have graced three game covers so far. Popular Electric trainers include Lt. Surge and Iono. With Pokémon Yellow, it can even be said that Electric is one of the few types represented by a starter Pokémon. So, the Electric type is doing quite well.
